The song that was picked for me initially was "Fields of Gold" by Sting. I was grateful that I found out that the song wasn't meant for me because I'm not a fan of Sting's music. He has a nice, mellow voice, but it's just not for me. I wound up feeling like garbage because I made a stink about the song. I forgot that it's supposed to be a challenge and you have to make the best of it. I apologized profusely but I still feel bad about it. The new song I was given is "Hold onto what you believe" by Mumford and Sons. Unfortunately, this song is even worse than the first. I read the lyrics and listened to the first verse and had to turn it off. I'm really not a big fan of folk music. I was stumped. Another lady in the challenge suggested to choose a lyric or series of lyrics that I could use for my page. it was such a relief not to have to use the whole song. I picked the first verse "I can't promise you
That I won't let you down". That was the only verse that really stuck out to me.
Today, I finally figured out a way of using the verse in my layout. I made a page for my son of a picture of him, his sister and I walking around the city bus stop. We were waiting for the bus to go up to the car mechanic to pick up our car. My husband took the pic. This challenge really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I used a 12x12 white cardstock base, and I doodled a frame around the edges of the paper. I used washi tape, enamel dots, hand drawn journaling lines and a script clear word. All the really cute things I'd see on other people's pages that I never had the guts to try out.
I am happy to say that I love how this page came out. I'm so grateful that I was given a song I didn't like. It really made me think and I realize now, if I had gotten a song I liked, I would have done it in my usual simple, block style. I'm so glad that this challenge pushed me to think outside the box. I've learned some new things about scrapbooking and how I want my style to progress and develop! Thanks to the ladies at the September Music Inspiration Challenge @ Scrapbook.com, you rock!!
